Griffin: New Arkansas Veterans Home Construction Made Eligible for Federal Grant

Jan 3, 2014 Issues: Health, Veterans

LITTLE ROCK – Congressman Tim Griffin (AR-02) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs included Arkansas on its FY2014 Priority Group 1 List of pending State Veteran Home Construction Grant Projects:

“This priority 1 designation is an important next step in the process of building a new state veterans home.  Arkansas ranks 19th on the list of 62 projects, so our state is well-positioned to receive federal funding.  I will continue to do everything I can to support the completion of this critical facility, which will help Arkansas honor its obligation to care for our veterans and provide the important services they have earned.”

On August 14, 2012, Rep. Griffin sent a letter [PDF] to Governor Mike Beebe offering assistance in obtaining federal support for a new state veterans home.

In February 2013, the Arkansas legislature overwhelmingly approved a new veterans home for the state.

On August 14, 2013, Rep. Griffin sent a letter [PDF] to VA Secretary Eric Shinseki urging the VA “to expedite the approval of matching funds for the construction of a new veterans home in Arkansas.”

“The Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs will choose a site for its new veterans home by the end of January,” the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported December 31, 2013.
